Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know this is not a scam?
Although there are many foreign scam companies out there claiming to provide our type of services you can rest assured that we are legitimate.
By the time you have been contacted, our Board Certified Genealogists have already conducted due diligence in certifying that you are a legitimate heir to the Estate. We can tell you who the decedent is, how exactly you are related, and what laws apply to your status as a heir.
To further offer credibility upon request DIG can provide you with a list of professional references.

Our company is American owned and operated and we pride ourselves in providing excellent services with complete transparency.
How much will this cost me?
DIG works strictly on a contingency basis as stated in our contract. We are only compensated if you are compensated. If you receive nothing we receive nothing.
Our fee is set in the contract as a percentage which covers all costs including attorney fees, filing fees, etc. If the case at any point becomes insolvent, you are liable for nothing.
What records will you need from me?
To establish your lineage to the courts we will ask you for a certified copy of your birth record, and if necessary, the death record of the descendent that was related to the decedent. Your vital records do not become part of public record.
Do I need to hire an Attorney?
No. We provide an attorney at law and gather all of the evidentiary proof to establish your claim. Our fee, as stated in our contract, covers all legal fees.
What should I do if I am contacted by another Genealogical company?
Probate records are considered public records. Therefore, there is a possibility that you may be contacted by several heir finding companies.
Here are some questions that you may want to ask as you determine which company is the right fit for you:

Are you registered to conduct business in the State where the Estate will be processed?

Who is the decedent and how exactly am I related to them?

Where is the estate being processed?

What documentation will you need from me?

What are the benefits of working with your company versus other companies?

Has anyone in or associated with your company placed themselves in a client's last will and testament? (this is predatory and unethical behavior)

Be cautious of signing with any company that cannot answer these questions or with companies that provide vague or veiled responses.
Transparency and integrity are the cornerstones of our company.
Am I liable for the Decedent's Debts?
No. The process of Probate permits legitimate creditors to file claims against the Estate. The Decedent's debts are covered through the process of asset (ex. cars, houses, and other property) liquidation. After all creditors are paid the remaining funds are distributed to the rightful heirs.
Until the distributions are made, the assets remain under the ownership of the Estate. It is of utmost importance that you do not enter any properties or remove any of the decedent's possessions without court approval. Otherwise you place yourself at risk for legal actions being taken against you and/ the Estate.
Can you tell me the monetary value of the Estate?
In most cases we can provide you with an estimate of the monetary share of your inheritance. Once an inventory has been filed and the creditor period has closed we can provide a more precise monetary figure.
